Dr. Anita Chattopadhyay Gupta – Principal

Welcome to Deshbandhu College for Girls for your future studies. We do not boast of a star-studded gallery of extraordinary students. Rather we open the doors of higher studies for our students with empathy, personal attention and dedicated teaching. We equip them to face the challenges of the larger world, to ensure allround development to become good human beings.
This is the Diamond Jubilee Year of the institution. In these sixty years we have spread our wings by offering courses in core areas of Humanities as well as job- oriented courses in Commerce and Business Administration. In future we hope to offer our students courses in computer studies and mathematical sciences.
The institution wishes the students a happy beginning.

The college offers both Honours and General Degree Courses in most of the major subjects in the Humaniities. It also offers Honours Degree Course in Commerce and a professional and employment-oriented course like BBA.

The history of the college dates back to the efforts of a group of education enthusiasts and members of the civil society in 1955. People like Dr. Hemendra Nath Dasgupta, Sri Jitesh Chandra Guha, Dr. Suddhaswata Bose and Sri Nakshatra Ray Choudhury built up the college with the objective of opening up the world of higher education to local school-leaving girls. From a humble beginning, the college has come a long way to be one of the fastest growing institutions for girls in Kolkata. Renowned historians and educationists like Dr. Nihar Ranjan Ray and Pratul Chandra Gupta had been actively associated with the development of the college.

To facilitate Master Degree Courses, Deshbandhu College for Girls has become a recognized study centre (No: 38) of RBU- Distance Education.
